The table offers guidance in case of certain PD-related incidents. In case of any doubt or if you need further assistance, always contact your physician or your nurse:
INCIDENT | SUGGESTED SOLUTION |
---|---|
1. The solution bag falls to the floor when preparing / checking | Discard - prepare a new bag |
2. Open bag connection or open MiniCap is touched | Don't perform a bag exchange, close the transfer set with the MiniCap → call the centre immediately |
3. Open transfer set is touched or touches clothing | Don't perform a bag exchange, close the transfer set with the MiniCap → call the centre immediately |
4. Dialysis solution does not flow in / out | - Are all clamps open? - Check lines for kinks, also under the bandage. - Change posture (knee bends, climbing stairs). - Check frangible. - Flush PD catheter: close transfer set, perform Flush, perform fill with 100 ml, retry drain. - Solution in the abdomen? - Digestion? → call the dialysis centre |
5. Twin bag - forgot to break the frangible (only solution from lower chamber is in the abdomen) | Drain the solution from the abdomen, prepare a new bag and repeat the bag exchange |
6. Transfer set is defective | Attach small white clamp to catheter → call the dialysis centre |
7. PD catheter or transfer system leaks | Attach small white clamp to catheter → call the dialysis centre |
8. New MiniCap falls out of the hand, transfer set is sterile open | Attention! Do not discard the transfer set, but open MiniCap sterilely, use it to close the transfer set sterilely |
9. Titanium adapter detaches from the catheter | Attach small white clamp to catheter. → call the dialysis centre |
10. Change at the catheter exit | → call the dialysis centre |
11. Drained fluid is not clear | Cancel bag exchange → call the dialysis centre immediately (be sure to bring the bag with you to the centre.) |
12. Drained fluid has fibrin | → call the dialysis centre |
13. Drained fluid is bloody | → call the dialysis centre |
14. Weight fluctuations of more than 2 kg | → call the dialysis centre |
15. Decreasing ultrafiltration (fluid removal) | → call the dialysis centre |
16. Increase or decrease in blood pressure | → call the dialysis centre |
17. Material defects | Prepare new material, inform dialysis centre. Bring defective material with packaging to the centre |
